BEACON will consolidate and advance research on right-wing political ecologies of climate change, security and migration, and right-wing populism, contributing to monitoring and countering tendencies towards ecobordering and eco-fascism through academic-activist collaborations.

Biography

Marco Armiero is Oportunius Research Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela, where he leads an ERC Advanced Grant project on the relationship between the Catholic Church and ecology and the newly founded Radical Environmental Humanities Hub. His publications include Wasteocene: Stories from the Global Dump (CUP 2021), translated into Italian, Spanish, Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, French and Chinese; Mussolini’s Nature (MIT 2022), available in Italian and Spanish; Vajont: The Political Ecology of an Unnatural Disaster (MIT 2026; Einaudi 2023); and Environmental History of Modern Migration (Routledge 2017). He was President of the European Society for Environmental History and is Editor-in-Chief of Resistance.
