Refugee Rights, Sustainable Developments Goals and the New Frontiers of Externalization of Migration Controls: The Way Forward (EXTERN2)

The EXTERN2 project will focus on the new and different forms of ‘contactless’ external migration control that have been employed by European States to eliminate any physical contact with migrants in transit, delegate to African countries the management of migration and refugee flows, and limit onwards movements to Europe.

Biography

Dr Mariagiulia Giuffré (PhD, LLM) is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the Department of Law and Criminology, Edge Hill University (UK), a Senior Research Associate to the Refugee Law Initiative (RLI), School of Advanced Study, University of London, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a member of ASGI (Italian Association for Juridical Studies on Immigration) with which she has collaborated to a number of cases litigated by ASGI lawyers. Over the last years, she has been a Research Fellow at the Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford and at the Centre of Migration Law at the Radboud University of Nijmegen. She has been a Guest Lecturer in a number of universities, including University of Oxford, the International Institute of Humanitarian Law in Sanremo, Queen Mary, University of London, Lund University, and Naples University “L’Orientale”.  From October 2010 to September 2013, she has been affiliated as a Guest Researcher to the Faculty of Law, Lund University.
