Small Group Project 2018-19

Human experiences of transitioning to sustainable agricultural practices

Our project brings together academics from different disciplinary backgrounds and farmers in a series of workshops to explore the human experiences associated with farming and agriculture as a sector facing great change. We seek to develop an inclusive research agenda, which gives voice to the traditionally silenced experience of farmers.

Biography

Anne Touboulic is Professor of Socio-Ecological Systems at Nottingham University Business School, with an interdisciplinary background in the social sciences and a body of work that is inherently boundary-spanning. Their research lies at the intersection of socio-ecological transitions, food production and consumption systems, and organisational and critical theory, with a particular focus on the governance of societal grand challenges in the global economy and equitable socio-ecological transitions in food systems. Their work has been published in leading journals including Human Relations, Work, Employment and Society, Journal of Business Research, Decision Sciences Journal, and Journal of Supply Chain Management.

Touboulic has developed collaborations across disciplinary boundaries within and beyond management and organisational scholarship, including with colleagues in History, Media Studies, Law, Engineering, Plant Sciences, and Architecture. Their work is impact-driven: they co-founded Inclusive Food, a movement for better food for all, and the Circular Agriculture Hub, a farmer-centric initiative for commercialisation.

They hold several leadership roles at the University of Nottingham alongside external positions, including Associate Editor at the Journal of Supply Chain Management and the open-access journal M@n@gement. They sit on the Advisory Board for Sustain's Bridging the Gap programme, are a trained Climate Fresk facilitator, and are a member of the ESRC Peer Review College.
