2024 Annual Report
Grant Competitions
In October 2023, the ISRF launched its tenth Flexible Grants for Small Groups competition. The deadline for applications was 5pm GMT on 30th November 2023. A long-list was sent out for external assessment, and 19 awards were ultimately made in April 2024.
In February 2024, the ISRF launched its seventh Mid-Career Fellowship competition. Having received a number of strong proposals, the Selection Panel met in July 2024, and voted to make six awards.
In September 2024, the ISRF launched its second First Book Fellowship competition. Following a round of external assessment, a selection panel will meet in April 2025 to nominate award recipients.
In November 2024, the ISRF launched its eleventh Flexible Grants for Small Groups competition, with a deadline of 10th January 2025.
In December 2024, the ISRF launched its eighth Early Career Fellowship competition with a deadline of 14th February 2025.

The ISRF Book Launch series continued in 2024, with events celebrating the launches of Dancehall In/Securities (‘H’ Patten), Struggles for the Human (Lara Montesinos Coleman), Beekeeping in the End Times (Larisa Jašarević), The End of Empires and a World Remade (Martin Thomas), Disability & Political Representation (Elizabeth Evans & Stefanie Reher); Revenant Ecologies (Audra Mitchell); Crude Capitalism (Adam Hanieh); and Voices in the Dark (Sarah Rosenberg-Jansen).
Conference
The 2024 ISRF Conference – Migration & Democracy in a Time of Climate Crisis – took place on 7-9 October 2024, in Warsaw, Poland.
Congress
The 4th ISRF Congress took place on 23rd & 24th January 2024, at Gresham College, London, UK.
The 5th ISRF Congress took place on 7th & 8th November 2024, at Gresham College, London, UK.
Lectures
The ISRF sponsored a series of lectures on Migration, in partnership with Gresham College: Dr Nishat Awan on The Visual Politics of Refugeehood (5th February 2024), Dr Greg Constantine on The Human Cost of Immigration Detention (18th March 2024), and Dr Sarah Rosenberg-Jansen on Sustainable Energy in Refugee Camps (10th April 2024).
Workshops
A closed workshop - Transcending the Antipodal Implications of Structure and Agency - took place in Amsterdam on 17th & 18th October 2024, funded by the ISRF's 2023 Call for Workshops award.
Publications
Blog & Bulletin
The termly print bulletin continues to be accompanied by a regularly updated blog, which features scholarly contributions from ISRF Fellows, Advisors and Associates.
Newsletter
A monthly newsletter was launched in April 2024, distributed via the ISRF Mailing List. The Newsletter is sent out to over 7.000 subscribers and the average edition is read by over 4.000 recipients.
Universal Impact
Universal Impact (UI) - subsidiary of The Conversation UK - engages with the ISRF Executive Team, ISRF Fellows and other award recipients to generate accessible, short-form content both for the ISRF website and for wider dissemination.
